Why Commission Charlotte?

Because she cares about doing a great job for her clients, she constantly challenges herself creatively to produce fresh looking work, she will go over and above to meet and exceed the brief, she does not believe in “good enough” but wants each shot to be a cracker. In other words, you’re in safe hands.

About Charlotte

Charlotte is an experienced food, product, lifestyle and portrait photographer who shoots for clients such as Caffe Nero, Cawston Press, Sous Chef, The White Company, Octopus Publishing, ASDA and Olive magazine to name but a few.

She specialised in food photography over fifteen years ago whilst living in Sydney. Inspired by the food and photography culture Down Under she realised it combined her two great passions: delicious food and the creation of beautiful imagery.

Her commissions are from magazines, publishers, advertising, design and PR agencies, restaurants and directly from food clients. This work ranges from creative images of prepared recipes to more technical ones of packaging and products. She mainly shoots using daylight or daylight style flash photography.

She has a large and varied collection of props for use on shoots and enjoys taking a hand in sourcing locations and propping shoots herself whenever necessary. Also, she is able to recommend some excellent home economists, food stylists and prop stylists with whom she has previously worked.

Based between Bristol, Bath, the South West and London, she undertakes shoots in studio or on location.

When not shooting for her clients, she can be found at newly opened restaurants, exhibitions, gigs, festivals, crafting classes, cooking nutritious and delicous meals and roaming the countryside with her husband and two boys. She also works as a personal stylist, see her Instagram @thirdgenstylist for this.

Her original work or images for which the license has expired can be bought from “Stockfood“.

What is involved in commissioining a shoot?

Every shoot is a different and requires thorough thought beforehand to get the most out of your day. To give you an idea of how it works, this is the usual sequence of a job:

  • Call or email discussing rates and dates
  • Creative & logistics planning meetings (via zoom or call)
  • Sharing of images, colours and styles of images for the shoot. Pinterest is a great source for this.
  • Shot list delivered by client and delivery date agreed.
  • Props and backgrounds sourced if necessary.
  • Shoot day: client at shoot in person or remote shooting with Whatsapp approval.
  • High and Low res images delivered by Dropbox, Wetransfer or client preferred means.

Charlotte will quote for her time and fees and depending on the shoot you may want to consider extras such as Video Footage, Studio or Location hire, Food stylist, Prop stylist, specific props and backgrounds and food costs, which Charlotte can provide and quote for as well. She will offer advice and guidance on styling and sourcing props.

Charlotte is happy to work to any brief and lights her images accordingly, from darker moodier lighting and photo manipulation to lighter sun streaked set ups.
